elcome to the 50th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Breakfast Celebration! This signature event honors
the life and legacy of Brother King while showcasing the
quality educational programs for youth made possible by your generous 昀椀nancial support. For half a century, this event has not only
paid homage to a global icon. Still, it has also illuminated the path
toward educational empowerment for the youth of Howard County,
Maryland.

As we re昀氀ect on this morning’s theme, “Fifty Years of Service and
Solidarity,” we are reminded that this journey has been a collective
effort. Your donations, partnerships, encouragement, and advocacy
have played a vital role in reaching this milestone. We are deeply
grateful for your support, which exempli昀椀es what can be achieved
when members of a beloved community work together.
Together, with shared purpose and determination, we have built a
legacy of hope and opportunity that will endure for years. I extend
my heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering support of our mission to
provide educational enrichment and scholarships to deserving students over the past 昀椀ve decades. Your dedication has transformed the
lives of countless young people, empowering them to pursue their
dreams through education.
The Alpha Foundation of Howard County, Inc. (AFHC), a 501(c)
(3) tax-exempt entity, provides funding for the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. - Kappa Phi Lambda Chapter to actualize educational
programming that helps motivated students achieve ambitious goals,
including leadership development, improved academic performance,
and 昀椀nancial assistance for higher education. Looking to the future,
we are more determined than ever to expand our reach and deepen
our impact. And, with your continued support and generosity, we can
ensure that the dream of equitable access to education thrives for
generations to come!
Educating our young people in an era marked by political division
and uncertainty is more essential than ever. The polarization of discourse and the rapid spread of misinformation have created a landscape where critical thinking and informed decision-making are
paramount. As we honor our history, let us also recommit to the work
ahead. Our community has the power to be a force for good - helping
those in need, advocating for justice, and fostering hope.
Most importantly, we must continue to prepare the next generation
to understand complex issues, engage in respectful dialogue, and develop the resilience to navigate a world often fraught with con昀氀icting
narratives.
By fostering an understanding of diverse perspectives and emphasizing shared values, we can inspire others to bridge divides, challenge
injustices, and contribute to a more inclusive and equitable society.
Let us carry the spirit of these past 昀椀fty years into the future with renewed energy and unwavering resolve to ensure that Brother King’s
legacy of service and solidarity endures.
Thank you again for attending and for your ongoing support of our
mission. We are profoundly appreciative of your partnership and
generosity - cornerstones of our efforts to prepare Howard County
students for academic success, entry into the workforce, community
service, and leadership.
We look forward to seeing you again next year!
Sincerely,
Dennis G. Kemp, Sr.
