elcome to the 50th Annual Dr. Martin
Luther King Jr. Memorial Breakfast. The
Brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity,
Incorporated - Kappa Phi Lambda Chapter are
delighted to have you join us this morning. This
year’s celebration theme is “50 Years of Service
and Solidarity.”
W
We are proud to highlight two significant milestones in our chapter’s history: 2025 will mark the
golden anniversary of this ceremonial occasion,
which honors the work of Brother Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and it also represents an impressive
50 years of service by Kappa Phi Lambda to the
Howard County community.
We are eternally grateful for the examples set
by Dr. King through his inspiring speeches centered on love, compassion, equity, equality, community, and social justice. The mission of Alpha
Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated emphasizes
the importance of obtaining a quality education,
demonstrating leadership, and fulfilling civic responsibilities—values that are reflected in our
work throughout Howard County.
In 1968, during Dr. King’s final days in Memphis,
our country faced challenges similar to those we
encounter today, primarily rooted in our failure to
treat all people with dignity. Some believe that the
President of the United States has cultivated a society built on hate and discord. Together, we must
strive to overcome injustice and work towards
building a more inclusive society. The collaborative efforts we undertake create opportunities for
academic mastery in high school, post-secondary
success, and serve as a model for the nation.
The initiatives sponsored by our fraternity
include:
• Alpha Achievers: A youth-led initiative targeting male high school students in Howard
County. We promote character development
that supports academic achievement, advocacy, and leadership development among our
high school and middle school students.
• Project Alpha: This program offers educational workshops and skill-building activities for
youth ages 12–15 who attend Howard County
Public Schools. The curriculum focuses on
developing critical thinking and decisionmaking skills in both educational and social
contexts.
• A Voteless People Is A Hopeless People: Our
voter education campaign engages the community in discussions about the importance
of voting.
• Harambee Conference: A one-day seminar
that empowers Alpha Achievers by exploring
topics essential for goal setting and post-secondary exploration.
• Scholarships: We provide financial assistance
to deserving Howard County high school students as they transition to college.
Thank you for attending our annual event celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
We look forward to your participation next year!
