Kappa Phi Lambda Chapter entrusts to its Education Committee the task
of developing and monitoring educational programs that benefit the African American young people in Howard County. The most visible of those
programs is the Alpha Achievers program.
n ALPHA ACHIEVERS
Established in 1997, this nationally recognized program
enables African-American males to achieve and maintain
a 3.0 grade point average or higher. The program promotes
character growth, leadership skills and critical thinking,
while encouraging its members to become full citizens of
the school and the community. They are required to develop
relationships with Howard County middle schools and annually complete 21 hours of service learning.
n HARAMBEE CONFERENCE
This annual conference provides the opportunity for student representatives of Alpha Achievers Chapters throughout Howard County to convene around a theme of uplifting
themselves and the community.
n HIGH ACHIEVERS – GO TO HIGH SCHOOL,
GO TO COLLEGE
Prepares African American male middle school students for
the academic, emotional and social transition that occurs
upon entering high school through a series of extracurricular and school based activities.

at Howard Community College.
n A VOTELESS PEOPLE IS A HOPELESS PEOPLE
Members of Kappa Phi Lambda Chapter volunteer at
several polling stations during the election season and,
at high schools, provide voter education in collaboration
with the Alpha Achievers.
n LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE
Develops a 21st century generation of African American
leaders.
