KPL Scholarships

KPL SCHOLARSHIPS
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Kappa Phi Lambda Chapter
with the 昀椀nancial support of the Alpha Foundation of Howard
County, Inc., offers 昀椀nancial assistance to graduating high
school seniors in Howard County, MD, pursuing higher
education. This program has provided over $350,000 in
scholarships since 1975, fostering student academic
achievement and leadership.
Scholarships to be awarded for the 2024-2025 school year
n Marian and Brother Cecil G. Christian Memorial Scholarship: $4,000
n Bro. Freeman Louis Sands, Sr. Memorial Scholarship: $2,000
n Outstanding Scholarship Awards: Four awards of $1,500 each
Eligibility criteria
To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
n Be a graduating high school senior residing in Howard County.
n Hold a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
n Demonstrate leadership qualities and a record of community service.
n Provide proof of acceptance and enrollment at a two- or four-year accredited college
or university for the 2024-2025 academic year.
Application requirements checklist
n A completed Alpha Phi Alpha - Kappa Phi Lambda Chapter Scholarship application form
n An of昀椀cial high school transcript
n A 1-2 page essay responding to the scholarship essay prompt.
n Two letters of recommendation (at least one from a faculty member (family members
are not acceptable).
n A copy of the of昀椀cial Student Aid Report based on a completed FAFSA form (optional but may
result in additional consideration for 昀椀nancial need).
Selection of scholarship awards
n The Education Scholarship Subcommittee of the Kappa Phi Lambda Chapter will evaluate
candidates based on the established criteria. Scholarship awards are limited to one per student.
